Grandma's Christmas Cutouts


Ingredients


Cookie Dough

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup butter (softened)

2 eggs beaten

1 tsp. vanilla

2 cups flour (King Arthur, All Purpose)

1 tsp. cream of tartar

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt 


Royal Icing

1lb powdered sugar

2oz egg white

1/2 tsp vanilla


Instructions


Cookie Dough

1. Cream sugar and butter.

2. Mix in eggs and vanilla. 

3. Mix in dry ingredients.

4. Cool dough for two hours.

5. Roll out dough until you have preferred thickness for cookies (they will rise some).

6. Have fun with cutouts! Cut your own or buy some from the store like us!

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 with trim.

8. Cook at 400 degrees for 4 minutes then rotate and cook until edges are golden brown.

Royal Icing

1. Beat egg whites to beer foam. Add vanilla or preferred extract for flavor.

2. Whisk in powdered sugar until preferred consistency. 2 minutes. 

3. Split royal into separate containers and use your favorite jams, fruit juices, zests, and spices for flavor. For chocolate icing, try cocoa powder (Nestlé)!
